The ID.4, the German automaker's first all-electric SUV in Canada, is back in 2023 with exciting additions and plenty of updates! Learn all you need to know about the upgraded model and its release date, or check out the full Volkswagen SUV lineup.
While Volkswagen is adding plenty of significant improvements, the design of the 2023 ID.4 stays essentially the same. It is once again based on the MEB platform and maintains the same dimensions, which make it a spacious electric SUV. In addition to 5 comfortable seats, it can hold 858 liters of cargo in its trunk, which can be increased to 1,818 liters by lowering the seats.
As we'll see later, VW is introducing a new powertrain, but this SUV will still be offered with the 82 kWh battery. This battery can power one or two motors, making it capable of delivering two- and four-wheel drive.
With the first, the electric ID.4 pumps out 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. With the second, it delivers even more juice with 295 horsepower and a whopping 389 lb-ft of torque! The range of the two-wheel drive version can reach up to 422 km.
At first glance, the exterior design of the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 doesn't appear to be very different, but there several new additions being offered on option, including new wheels and colours. We also noticed the glossy black finish on the front bumper.
As we mentioned, the new 2023 ID.4 in Canada will feature a new, smaller battery with a capacity of 62 kWh. This more affordable battery lets the manufacturer lower the starting price, making it ideal for those with a more limited budget. The range and power output of this ID.4 will naturally be slightly inferior to that of the other models, and we expect the exact figures to be revealed soon.
Speaking of range, the all-wheel drive version now features superior capabilities: while it previously offered a maximum range of 394 km, that number has now increased to 410 km.
The interior of the 2023 ID.4 was also upgraded this year. One notable change is in its upholstery, which is no longer made of fabric only. Instead, the standard upholstery is a mix of recycled fabric and leatherette on the sides, which is offered in a variety of trims and colours. It is now equipped with a redesigned center console with interchangeable and very ergonomic inserts.
The Statement Package is available once again for those who want a little added luxury. It also offers a few upgrades, including:
Volkswagen is also expanding its standard technology package, adding the 12-inch infotainment screen as standard rather than on option. Also added to the package is a 45-watt USB-C quick charger.
Lastly, VW is also refining and expanding its suite of driver assistance technologies, designed to make your daily commute safer and easier. The standard package now also includes Intelligent Parking Assist, which parks your car and, with its memory function, can remember parking maneuvers.
The forward collision warning system also features cyclist and pedestrian detection, while the travel assist system with highway driving now includes a driver-initiated lane change function.
In 2023, VW is adding a new batter and plenty of new features, and the ID.4's prices are being revised to reflect this. The entry-level model with a 62 kWh battery starts at $43,995, which is $1,000 lower than last year's base model.
As for the other versions, they are slightly more expensive. The Pro version is offered for $47,995, while the Pro version with all-wheel drive starts at $52,995. There is also a $1,950 shipping and preparation fee.
With a price tag under $60,000, all versions of the 2023 ID.4 qualify for both government incentives. On the purchase of your 2023 ID.4 in Canada, you will receive a $5,000 rebate from the federal government, as long as the optional packages you choose do not bring the total price to over $65,000.
In Quebec, this is combined with a $7,000 incentive, bringing the total rebate to $12,000.
The 2023 ID.4 went into production on July 26, 2022 at the Chattanoga plant in Tennessee. This enabled the brand to increase its North American production to 7,000 units per month.
Even so, the pronounced interest in the electric SUV means that availability is limited. Due to supply chain disruptions, some model versions may not be available and will require a factory order from your Volkswagen dealer. As a result of these supply chain disruptions, waiting times will vary with delivery times currently estimated at around 18 months for the ID.4. You can configure yours at VW Lauzon Blainville and contact us if you have any questions about delays.
Affordable and packed with technologies, this SUV is even more exciting in 2023. While you wait for its release date, your dealer in Blainville, near Mirabel, invites you to buy a used Volkswagen!
